A major water pipe burst on Makhetha Street near the Police Station forced an immediate shut-off of the Maletswai supply on 25 November 2025. The interruption affects several neighbourhoods as repair teams move in to restore flow.
What Happened
A burst pipe on Makhetha Street triggered a sudden water shutdown early Tuesday. The rupture cut supply to Area 13, Block G, Dukathole Township, and Vula-Vala. Crews reached the site shortly after the failure and began preparing for repairs.
“We had to close the line at once to prevent further damage,” a municipal field supervisor said at the scene.
Official Response
According to Joe Gqabi District Municipality, maintenance teams have already started work and will push to stabilise the line quickly. Officials pledged frequent updates as repairs progress.
“We understand the urgency. Our teams are working at full pace to restore the supply safely,” the municipality noted in a public statement.
Community Impact
Residents and businesses across the four areas reported empty taps within hours. Schools and small shops also adjusted operations as the outage spread. Even so, many expressed patience, noting that clear communication has helped them prepare.
“We just need steady updates so we can plan,” said a Dukathole shop owner.
