OR Tambo District Municipality held a Fraud Awareness and Ethical Leadership workshop today at Dan’s Country Lodge. The session brought together local leaders and staff to confront fraud risks and promote clean governance. It formed part of a districtwide push for stronger accountability.
What Happened
The workshop focused on the dangers of fraud, misconduct, and corruption in local government. Speakers highlighted real-world risks and urged staff to act before small issues grow.
Mr. Matomela, Director of Strategic Planning and Governance, said, “People often fall into fraud because of pressure, rationalization, or clear opportunity. We must stay alert and shut those doors.”
Official Response
Municipal officials stressed that every employee shares responsibility for safeguarding public resources. They encouraged swift reporting and firm action.
“We want a culture where wrongdoing has no space to breathe,” an ethics officer said during the session. Clear reporting lines were repeated throughout the workshop to ensure easy access.
Community Impact
Organisers also addressed the public, urging residents to speak out when they see misconduct. This, they noted, helps build a transparent and accountable district.
“You can report anonymously. Your voice protects your community,” a facilitator reminded attendees.
