In a proactive move to address food insecurity among students, the Institutional Student Representative Council (ISRC) at Walter Sisulu University (WSU) distributed food parcels to 600 students across all four campuses this week.

The Mthatha, Ibika, BCC, and Komani campuses benefited from this initiative, made possible through a combination of the ISRC’s budget and a generous donation from the Vice-Chancellor’s Office.

The campaign is part of the recently launched “No! to Student Hunger” initiative, specifically targeting students who are not funded. The response from students has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing gratitude for the support.

Undeterred by the initial success, the ISRC remains committed to continuing this vital work and has extended a call for support from local businesses and other entities to ensure the sustainability of the initiative.

By addressing food insecurity, the ISRC aims to create a conducive learning environment for all students, enabling them to focus on their academic pursuits without the burden of hunger.
