According to a media statement released by the Umzimvubu Local Municipality, the Municipality has been advised of an alleged Gender-Based Violence (GBV) matter that allegedly implicates the Speaker of Council, Cllr. Happy Ngqasa.
Reports suggest that this comes after the Municipality lodged a formal enquiry into the matter with the South African Police Services (SAPS). It is believed that the Umzimvubu Local Municipality (ULM) has since received confirmation that the matter is due for a full investigation.
Cllr Nqgasa will be required to cooperate with law enforcement agencies during this period. Any act of violence towards women and children is a very serious offence, and the Municipality will decisively deal with it once all processes have been finalized”, said ULM Chief Whip. – Cllr Florida Ngonyolo
The Municipality say, upon completion of the said investigation, the public will be updated further on the matter.
