Eastern Cape, The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) has shared scholarship and bursary information with learners from high schools located in the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality.
The scholarship and bursary drive is part of a national roadshow where SANRAL visits communities in remote areas to provide scholarship and bursary information to learners who may not have access to online information.
Councillor Mzamo Dlamini from Winnie Madikizela Mandela Local Municipality was pleased that government had brought development to schools in rural areas and SANRAL’s Southern Region’s stakeholder relations specialist, Welekazi Ndika, encouraged learners to take advantage of the scholarship and bursary opportunities
Department of Education District Director Zoleka Khuzwayo urged learners to focus on their studies, so as to access the SANRAL scholarships and bursaries, which she referred to as: “Opportunities of a lifetime”.
Learners from Mdatya High School, Baleni High School, Maqongwane High School and Cangca Senior Secondary School attended the information sharing session, which took place on the 16th of September 2021, at the Mdatya Senior Secondary School in Bizana.
Abenathi Nzama, a Grade 11 learner at Baleni High School, showed great interest and conveyed his desire study chemical or electrical engineering one day:

SANRAL’s scholarship programme was historically developed to provide financial support to learners from Grade 10 to Grade 12, preferably those who excel in Mathematics and Science. This year, scholarships are available to all high school learners, from Grade 8 to Grade 12, irrespective of their subject choices. Furthermore, where learners previously required a 70% overall aggregate to be eligible for consideration, they now require 60% with a view to improving their aggregate to 70%.
The applications for bursaries and scholarships are available on the SANRAL website and close on Thursday, 30 September 2021.
