The AmaNdungwana and AmaQiya Royal Houses have condemned what they described as “unbecoming and irregular statements” from the AbaThembu King, who allegedly insulted Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane at a recent event in Cape Town.
In a joint statement, the traditional houses said they were “deeply pained and disgusted” by the King’s comments at the 25 July gathering, calling them derogatory and irresponsible.
“Oscar Mabuyane is a democratically elected official who deserves the utmost respect from all. Above all, he is a father and a son of the soil,” the statement read.
The royal houses expressed concern that the King “attacks Premier Mabuyane whenever he gets an opportunity,” describing the behaviour as unacceptable.
The AmaNdungwana and AmaQiya leaders called on the King of AmaDlomo to engage in constructive dialogue if there were any differences. They also demanded a written and public apology, as well as the removal of “unscrupulous messages” from social media platforms.

The houses warned that failure to address the issue could lead to “further critical steps” and urged the government to intervene.
“We humbly request our Government to intervene and warn the ‘King’ about this boyish and bullying behaviour,” they added.
The statement was signed by Nkosi Gcinizibele, Head of the AmaNdungwana Council, and Nkosi Vulisango, Spokesperson of the AmaQiya Royal House.
