The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality hosted a Children’s Christmas Party at the Walmer Multipurpose Centre on 4 December 2025. The Special Programmes Unit partnered with the Siyaphambili Disable Community Project to support the event. The programme aimed to bring joy to children who are orphans, children living with disabilities and those from disadvantaged homes. It also strengthened community partnerships during the festive season.
In addition, the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture supported the event. Siyaphambili distributed Christmas gifts to all the children. The SPU sponsored Christmas items to make the celebration more meaningful. Officials said the day focused on love, inclusion and dignity.
Guest speaker inspires children through her powerful life story
Guest speaker Thembelihle Ngcai delivered an inspirational message. She is the Eastern Cape Chairperson of Disabled People South Africa. She shared how she became disabled at a young age. However, she refused to let her disability stop her dreams.
She earned a Journalism degree from Rhodes University. She later became a journalist for a national newspaper. Meanwhile, she used her platform to advocate for the rights of persons with disabilities. Her story encouraged children to believe in their potential.
Ngcai said community support is important. She urged families to stand with children living with disabilities. She also encouraged young people to pursue education and opportunities.
Municipality says support for vulnerable children must continue
Municipal officials said the Christmas Party is part of ongoing work. They want to support vulnerable children throughout the year. Furthermore, they believe such programmes build confidence and strengthen community unity.
Leaders thanked Siyaphambili and all partners for their contributions. They said the municipality will continue working with disability organisations to improve lives. They also encouraged residents to keep supporting children in difficult circumstances.
