On 31 October 2025, the Matatiele Local Municipality, through its Special Programs Unit, handed over 1,000 seedlings to the Sinakhonyo Community Project in Mazizini Village, Ward 04. The event concluded the Department of Social Development Month, celebrated throughout October, under the theme “Building Resilient Families for Sustainable Livelihoods.”

What Happened?

The seedling handover forms part of the municipality’s ongoing commitment to fight poverty and uplift vulnerable groups, including older persons, children, and people with disabilities. The Sinakhonyo Community Project, known for its grassroots agricultural initiatives, received the seedlings to strengthen food security and promote sustainable income opportunities for local families.

Municipal officials emphasized that empowering communities through agriculture not only supports livelihoods but also encourages independence and long-term stability.
