Clarkeville Village, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality — As part of the Public Service Month launch, Alfred Nzo District Municipality (ANDM) has donated building materials worth R85,000 to Liyabuya Pre-School. The initiative, led by Cllr. Eunice Diko through the Community Development Services department, aims to improve infrastructure and create a better learning environment for young children.
WHAT HAPPENED
The donation includes a 5,000-litre water tank, roof sheets, cement, rafters, doors, hinges, windows, paint, and blocks, among other construction items. These resources will be used to fix the inside roof and refurbish two key preschool buildings which house a kitchen, office space with a sick bay, and classrooms.
Liyabuya Pre-School, established in June 2006 by community committees, has grown from a rondavel in a church into a vital centre for early childhood education. now, it employs two practitioners and a cook, serving 50 children who graduate to nearby Clarkeville Junior secondary school.
OFFICIAL RESPONSE
Principal Mrs. Kekeka welcomed the gesture with heartfelt gratitude:
“This support will go a long way in creating a safe, clean, and beautiful learning environment for our children,” she said.
Representing the Department of Education, Mr. Dumisani Ncamani urged parents and the community to protect and value the preschool:
“Preschool is the foundation of character and confidence in children. Guard and treasure this school, keep it safe from vandalism and theft.”
Councillor. Diko noted that the department’s R85,000 investment reflects the commitment to ensure children access education within their own communities.
“Liyabuya Pre-School should be the feeder to Clarkeville J.S.S., building a strong educational pipeline right here in the village,” she added.
