The King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) Local Municipality, Technical Services Department opened its two-day Strategic Planning Session at Mthatha Stadium on 17 November 2025. The meeting focuses on improving roads, strengthening electricity infrastructure, and aligning plans for sustainable community development. Senior municipal officials and sector partners gathered to assess progress and chart new actions ahead of the broader institutional planning cycle.
What Happened
Day one of the session centred on reviewing the department’s infrastructure projects, identifying recurring challenges, and showing recent achievements. The discussion covered road upgrades, electricity supply issues, and the impact of fast-growing urban and rural communities.
Acting Portfolio Head for Technical Services, Councillor N. Sibeko, opened the session by calling for renewed commitment and fresh ideas. “Over the past few years we have made significant strides, yet we continue to face challenges that demand new thinking and innovative solutions,” she said.
She also pointed to climate-change pressures and rising community expectations as factors pushing the municipality to adjust its strategies.
Official Response
The session drew strong support from government departments and municipal partners, including COGTA, the Department of Transport, OR Tambo District Municipality, Nyandeni Local Municipality, DMRE, SANRAL, Eskom, MISA, CSIR, and DEDEAT. Their presence signalled a coordinated approach to addressing KSD’s infrastructure needs.
Officials emphasised that the planning exercise forms part of the municipality’s preparations for its broader institutional Strategic Planning Session, ensuring alignment across all units.
Community Impact
Improved roads, reliable electricity, and better infrastructure planning are expected to benefit residents in both urban and rural areas. The session aims to fast-track service delivery, strengthen intergovernmental coordination, and support long-term growth in the KSD region.
