On 10 September 2025, the King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) Municipality convened its Indigent Steering Committee meeting in Mqanduli to tackle pressing issues affecting families in need. The session focused on identifying and prioritizing households that require government’s basic services, ensuring no family is left without essential support.

What Happened

The King Sabatha Dalindyebo Municipality reaffirmed its indigent policy, aimed at providing relief to struggling families. Support includes 50 kWh of free electricity from Eskom each month, access to water and sanitation services, basic education, and social grants.

Official Response

KSD Member of Mayoral Committee (MMC), Mr. Z. Gana, called on ward councillors to reach out to families who qualify for indigent assistance.

“We urge all residents who meet the requirements to apply for support. It is important that no family in our communities suffers without basic services,” said Gana.

Community Impact

The indigent programme is expected to ease the burden on vulnerable households in rural and urban parts of KSD. By extending services, the municipality hopes to improve living conditions, reduce inequality, and foster dignity among disadvantaged families.
