The Ministry said it notes with grave concern threats, whether direct or implied, aimed at Mr Kganyago.
Justice Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi and the Government of South Africa have condemned messages issued by Yusuf Omar, a representative of Omar’s Motor Den. The dealership is at the centre of allegations under investigation by the SIU in relation to the Tembisa Hospital tenders matter involving Mr Morgan Maumela.
According to the Ministry, the remarks followed a ruling by the Special Tribunal. The Tribunal ordered that five vehicles seized at Mr Maumela’s property be returned to the dealership under specified conditions.
After the ruling, Mr Kganyago clarified the SIU’s position in his official capacity as spokesperson. The Ministry described subsequent comments directed at both the SIU and Mr Kganyago personally as deeply regrettable and unacceptable.
Why it matters
The Ministry stated that public officials must be allowed to execute their lawful responsibilities without fear, intimidation or harassment.
It further placed on record that any communication containing threats, whether subtle or overt, or messages that may reasonably be construed as incitement against Mr Kganyago, will not be tolerated.
The Minister emphasised that Mr Kganyago speaks in his official role as a representative of the SIU, not in a personal capacity.
The matter relates to the ongoing SIU investigation into allegations connected to Tembisa Hospital tenders. Therefore, public communication around the case remains under scrutiny.
