On 15 December 2025, the Alfred Nzo District Council held a formal swearing-in ceremony in eMaXesibeni. This marked the official appointment of Cllr. Godfrey Ganya, who now steps in as the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) representative for Ward 27, Matatiele.
What Happened
Cllr. Ganya takes over from the late Cllr. Mawande Magadla. The swearing-in took place at the District Council Chambers, with Cllr. Sixolile Mehlomakulu, the Speaker of Council, presiding over the ceremony.
In his address, Cllr. Mehlomakulu highlighted the importance of maintaining democratic representation, saying the council “remains committed to good governance and service delivery.”

The municipality stated that Ganya’s inclusion ensures continued momentum in governance and development across the district. The Speaker also stressed the need for collaboration between the district and local municipalities to improve service outcomes.
“This council must reflect the will of the people and continue building a better future,” said Cllr. Mehlomakulu.
