According to the National Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, five suspects are due to appear in court in the Eastern Cape on Tuesday on charges of murder and attempted murder related to the attacks of violence at the University of Fort Hare.
Reports indicate that Police Minister Bheki Cele and Police Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola, are expected to attend the court appearance of the five suspects in the Dikeni Magistrate’s Court.
The announcement of the arrests was made by Brigadier Athlenda Mathe in a statement on Monday.
Mathe said the suspects face charges of murder and the attempted murder of employees associated with the University of Fort Hare.
One of the victims of murder is believed to be Mboneli Vesele, the bodyguard and driver of vice – chancellor, Sakhele Buhlungu, who was shot and killed in January.
Petrus Roets was also a victim, who was also killed last March, in a suspected hit.
It is reported that the Fort Hare University also announced that, last month, a former employee was arrested with illegal firearms in a sting operation.
