Body parts continue to surface in the area of Boksburg, where a gas tanker exploded after it became wedged under the bridge on the 24th of December 2022.

The Gauteng police have notified the provincial government that additional body parts were found in the area of the incident on Wednesday 04 January 2023.

Twelve healthcare workers who were stationed at Tambo Memorial Hospital died from the incident. The Gauteng government said, 35 staff members from Tambo Memorial Hospital were injured and not thirteen as it was previously communicated.

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi said, “We continue to stand with the families whose lives have been changed forever by the tragic incident. This has not been an easy period, especially to those who lost their loved ones.”

“We will ensure that our health professionals provide best care to those that are still on the road to recovery,” added Premier Panyaza Lesufi.

Gauteng government continues to offer psychological support to Tambo Memorial Hospital staff members, and to all families that are affected by the explosion. The provincial government has worked with organizations such as Gift of the Givers and Avbob to assist affected families with burial arrangements.

Some departments from the Tambo Memorial Hospital which were affected by the gas tanker explosion have resumed with their operations. However, contractors remain on site to work on the affected areas of the hospital so that patients can receive services as quickly as possible.
