The Azania Movement has announced a change to its planned community engagements in the Eastern Cape.

What happened

Azania Movement announced the postponement of its Eastern Cape People’s Assembly tour following requests from some individuals and organisations for financial or logistical support as a condition for participation. According to the movement, its National Executive Board agreed to delay the tour in order to restructure how it engages with communities.

Official response

In its media statement, the movement stressed that it is a civic organisation, not a funding body, charity, or political party. It said it does not offer financial incentives for participation and operates without external funding. The leadership said the postponement allows the organisation to refocus on “constructive engagement and practical solutions” rather than public demonstrations.

Community impact

Although the public tour has been postponed, the movement said its programmes will continue. Going forward, it plans to work directly with communities on a ward-by-ward basis, focusing on civic education, youth empowerment, and locally driven solutions to poverty and inequality. Further updates will be shared in due course.
