Alfred Nzo District Municipality held the second day of its Community Development Services Strategic Planning session, focusing on presentations from key municipal service units.
The departments reported on their mandates, current programmes, progress on the adopted action plan for the current financial year, and implementation challenges.

Several municipal units presented updates on their operations and responsibilities during the planning session.
The Municipal Health Unit outlined its work in environmental health and public safety. These include food safety inspections, waste management monitoring, disease prevention and environmental health compliance.
Officials reported ongoing community health awareness campaigns, inspections of food premises and vector control initiatives aimed at preventing disease spread. Limited resources and the need for stronger community education programmes were highlighted as challenges.
The Customer Care Unit presented strategies to improve communication between the municipality and residents. The unit explained systems used to manage service queries, complaints and community feedback.
Officials also emphasised improving response times to community concerns, better tracking of service requests and expanding the use of digital platforms and call centre systems.
The Disaster Management Unit presented the municipality’s disaster preparedness and response framework. The presentation included disaster risk reduction strategies, early warning systems and coordination with emergency stakeholders.
The unit highlighted the importance of community awareness and preparedness, especially in relation to floods, storms and other climate-related risks affecting communities in the district.
The Fire and Rescue Services Unit presented updates on emergency response operations, fire prevention activities and rescue services. Officials shared incident statistics and outlined community fire safety education programmes.
Operational challenges raised included equipment requirements, training needs for personnel and strategies to improve emergency response times.

There was also discussion about improving benefits for EPWP workers in line with departmental guidelines where applicable.
