Kwa-Nikwe S.S., pioneering the inclusion of music as a subject in the Alfred Nzo East Department of Education district (Bizana), recently hosted its 3rd annual music festival on October 13, 2023, at the vibrant Intsingizi Hall. Led by the passionate instructors, Mr. Luyolo Dumela and Mhlongo, the event served as both a fundraising initiative for essential musical equipment and a platform for parents to witness their children’s artistic talents in action.
Music, as Mr. Dumela aptly put it, goes beyond just melodies and rhythms; it imparts vital life lessons. “It’s not just music; it’s more than that. Music teaches self-discipline and respect,” he emphasized. Furthermore, it offers a constructive path for youth, steering them away from the streets and potential pitfalls like drugs. Music keeps them engaged and helps them cultivate a sense of belonging.
The festival’s prestige was elevated by the presence of esteemed guests, including the Honorable MEC FOR EDUCATION Fundile Gade and Babalo Madikizela. Their attendance during the rehearsal left them deeply impressed, and they pledged their support for the school’s initiatives, committed to fostering enhanced learning experiences for the students. The Department of Education also stood in solidarity with the event, reaffirming its importance in nurturing young talents.
Adding to the festival’s charm were the return of past music learners from Kwa-Nikwe, Mndiyata Zanele, Nkosi Snoxolo, and Katamzi Ayabonga, hailing from Bizana Village. Miss Zatelele, the Bizana Village choir conductor, also joined in, radiating enthusiasm to share their musical gifts.
Do you know a young talent within your circle who aspires to pursue their musical passions? Encourage them to explore the opportunities awaiting them at Kwa-Nikwe S.S. Registration forms for 2024 are readily available at the school.
As the school marches forward in its commitment to music education, the need for musical instruments, including a piano and dedicated music rooms, is paramount. Despite the challenges, the students’ performances rival those of more privileged institutions. Just imagine the transformation that additional music instruments could bring to their results.
Kwa-Nikwe S.S. is not just making a difference in its community through music but also inspiring us all to reflect on the positive changes we can contribute to the world. If you wish to support the school’s mission, please reach out to Mr. Luyolo Dumela at 073 293 8647 or send an email to dumelaa@gmail.com. Together, we can help these young talents strike the right chords for a brighter future.
