Arts practitioners in the Eastern Cape have until 13 March 2026 to apply for National Arts Council project funding for the 2026–2027 financial year.

What is happening?

The National Arts Council of South Africa (NAC) has opened its Annual Project Funding Call for the 2026–2027 financial year.

According to the official call document, applications opened on 2 February 2026 and close on 13 March 2026 at 23h59 .

Funding supports individual arts practitioners, registered organisations, and community art centres working in:

  • Craft
  • Dance
  • Literature
  • Music
  • Theatre and Musical Theatre
  • Visual Arts
  • Multidiscipline

The maximum amount per project is R350,000 .

Outcomes will be announced on 29 May 2026 .

Only one application per beneficiary will be supported.

Who qualifies?

Individuals

  • Must be South African citizens
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must be active in the arts

Organisations

  • Must be formally registered
  • Must comply with SARS, CIPC and relevant legislation

Government employees are not eligible unless under EPWP, CWP, internships or learnerships .

Funding focus areas

Projects must address at least two of six critical focus areas, including:

  • Social cohesion
  • Marginalised and indigenous arts
  • Addressing social ills
  • Supporting vulnerable groups
  • New works and digital arts
  • Capacity building and arts entrepreneurship

Maximum funding

Applications requesting more than this amount will be disqualified .

Compulsory documents

Incomplete applications are automatically declined .

Common required documents include:

  • Certified SA ID copies
  • Bank confirmation letter
  • CVs
  • Reference letters (signed and dated)
  • Registration certificate (for organisations)
  • Examples of previous work

Projects involving children or persons with disabilities require safeguarding proof, including police clearance certificates .
