A 14-year-old girl was raped in 2018 June by her father’s friend and justice was never served.
“I was raped by my father’s friend Likho NomaQhiza who then forced me to do abortion. I was so terrified that I couldn’t even tell my parents about it.” said the girl.
The perpetrator allegedly forced the young girl to lie about her age when he took her to a private doctor for an abortion.
After days of sickness, the 14-year-old girl was then taken to a hospital in Bizana by her parents where she was treated following the abortion that didn’t go well. She then told her parents about the ordeal and a rape case was opened. DNA samples were taken as evidence and the family never received any positive feedback from the investigating officer.
“We opened a case back in 2018 and we have never set foot in court since. We were told that the perpetrator has been out of jail since 2018 and is continuing with his life like nothing happened. He once offered me a R50 000 bribe to withdraw the case and I refused. But now I feel like the justice system is failing us. We want justice for our daughter.” Commented Mr Ntsema.
The girl is now 19 years old and is not coping at school because of what happened to her.
Odwa Mbangwa the founder of the Rising Dawn Reflections an NGO that advocates for children’s rights has contacted Mlungisi Mvelase Attorneys to seek for a piece of legal advice for this family and has organised counselling for the girl as she is not coping with all that has happened to her.
The Ntsema family is seeking public assistance in getting justice for their daughter.
