Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) has officially launched the latest round of its Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QLFS), a vital nationwide initiative aimed at gathering insights into the country’s employment landscape.

The QLFS is a household-based, nationally representative survey conducted every quarter to deliver official labour market statistics. It plays a critical role in informing government policies, economic planning, and business strategies, especially in areas such as unemployment, job creation, and skills development.

According to Stats SA, the QLFS collects data on:

  • Employment and unemployment rates
  • Types of employment (formal, informal, self-employed)
  • Economic inactivity (including discouraged work-seekers)
  • Job-seeking behaviour
  • Labour-related demographics

Fieldworkers from Stats SA will visit scientifically selected households across the country to conduct in-person interviews. The organisation has assured the public that all information collected is confidential and protected under the Statistics Act. The data is used solely for statistical purposes, helping policymakers and businesses plan for a safer and more economically inclusive society.

“Your input helps Stats SA track real labour market conditions, so we can better plan for jobs, skills, and support systems,” the organisation said.

The QLFS is also essential for understanding economic shifts, particularly amid high unemployment rates, youth joblessness, and rising informal sector activity in South Africa.

Residents are encouraged to participate fully if approached by an official Stats SA fieldworker. For more information, visit www.statssa.gov.za.
