On Friday, April 19, 2024, the Gcinamasiko Art and Heritage Trust, alongside esteemed author Dr. Gcina Mhlophe and the library section of the Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture (DSRAC) in the Alfred Nzo district and Umzimvubu Local Municipality, came together to commemorate World Book Day at the KwaBhaca library.
Under the theme “READ YOUR WAY,” the event aimed to promote literacy and celebrate the significance of literature in our communities.
The program included a reading club session featuring students from St. Georges Primary School, who showcased their impressive reading and storytelling skills. Dr. Mhlophe expressed her delight in participating in the celebration at the library, emphasizing the importance of reading and writing for young children.
Nomvuyo Mphako, the manager of libraries in the Alfred Nzo district, highlighted the purpose of World Book Day as a means to celebrate books and the writers behind them, while also promoting a culture of reading and writing among people of all ages.
As part of the festivities, St. Georges Primary School Club received textbooks generously donated by Dr. Mhlophe, further demonstrating the community’s commitment to nurturing a love for literature and education among its youth.
