Daring to make a change in the township, Streetchefs hosted the first Mdantsane Food Expo Vendor Competition at the M&K building in Mdantsane NU1 on the 31 January 2026. This event is scheduled to take place quarterly , it is aimed at supporting and developing food vendors across Mdantsane.
The expo was sponsored by notable companies such as Coca Cola, Pick n Pay and Boxer, Limafuth Aborttoir and others who lent their support to this initiative as well as radio stations including Mdantsane FM. A number of 13 food vendors took it to the stage to present their businesses and food specialities.

“This initiative is designed to benefit food vendors, stakeholders, institutions and the broader community, while creating meaningful visibility and long-term impact for participating partners” said Mfuneko Mtshewu who is one of the four men for Streetchefs; Avela Mafilika, Vuyani Nkinkqa and Anam Xinwa.
Streetchefs are the East London braai masters, specialising in spit braai, braai meat, and fish braai experience. It was discovered a decade ago, the four men introduced a unique and innovative food business concept that was embraced by the people of East London and surrounding areas.

Streetchef’s vision is centered around creating a supportive ecosystem that fosters business growth and development, ultimately benefiting the community.

They strive to establish a system that identifies challenges as well as opportunities in the business sector and takes proactive steps to address them. By doing so, the aim is to empower young individuals with practical skills, nurture innovative ideas and provide emerging business with the necessary support to thrive. The organization’s objective is to stimulate economic growth , create value and make a positive impact on society.

As the event drew to a close, the judges made their final deliberations known, announcing the top three winners who were then presented their well-deserving prizes.
