Eastern Cape detective arrested for allegedly raping a teenager at police station

Date:

On August 29, a police officer suspected of raping a 17-year-old girl at the Kei Mouth police station will make a second appearance in front of the Komga magistrate’s court to make a formal bail request.   The teenager launched a charge of assault against her boyfriend and the accused went to pick her up from her house [on August 6] so that she could be questioned at the police station. The victim allegedly refused the suspect’s demands for sexual favours while they drove to the police station. But when they reach the police station, the investigator is accused of sexually assaulting the girl rather than listening to her story. After bringing the girl to his office, the suspect reportedly began kissing her before raping her.

During the alleged rape, the victim sobbed and she bit the suspect on the left shoulder, picked up a bottle and struck him on the head until the bottle broke. Additionally, it was claimed that the teenager used a piece of the broken bottle to stab the detective in the shoulder in an effort to end the ordeal. She managed to flee and immediately alerted his colleagues on duty at the community service centre

The 45 year old suspect was arrested by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate on Friday   The detective has since resigned from his job. The Eastern Cape police officer accused of raping a 17-year-old teenager inside a police station is expected to apply for bail next Monday. The 45-year-old man, who worked as a detective at the Kei Mouth police station, made his first appearance in the East London Magistrate’s Court on Monday. The matter was postponed to 29 August 2022, for a formal bail application
