A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a clothing store in the Lusikisiki central business district, just hours after the crime was committed.

The suspect, who is from the Bazana locality, was arrested by the Lusikisiki-based OR Tambo District Task Team on Saturday, 20 June 2026, following a rapid investigation into the robbery that took place at approximately 15:30.

According to police, three armed men allegedly robbed a clothing shop in the CBD, making off with an undisclosed amount of cash and several clothing items. Acting on information gathered shortly after the incident, members of the District Task Team tracked down and arrested one of the suspects at about 18:30 on the same day.

Police said a Flywheel revolver with an erased serial number, two live rounds of ammunition, cash amounting to R9 500 and clothing items believed to have been stolen during the robbery were found in the suspect’s possession. The recovered clothing was positively identified by the store’s management.

At this stage, police have not disclosed the identity of the suspect, the exact amount of money stolen during the robbery, or whether the recovered cash is linked to the proceeds of the crime.
