Community Unity in the Face of Tragedy: Government and Local Authorities Extend Compassionate Support to Grieving Family

On the Thursday, 4th of January, Umzimvubu Local Municipality, Alfred Nzo District Municipality, priests of various churches, the Department of Disaster and First Aid accompanied by the Minister of Public Works in the Eastern Cape visited Majenge’s home in the village of Mzimweni in Ward 21 where five members of the family died in a tragic accident involving two vehicles collided.

To meet the family during the period of mourning, the municipality came with food, three sheep and money with the intention of trying to help while the funeral is being prepared. The delegation concluded by holding a prayer to comfort the members of the family in the dark cloud they are facing.

Speaking for the government, MEC for Public Works and Infrastructure, Ntombovuyo Nkopane said ,

We are here today to mourn with you because we are a government that cares and we know the pain you are facing. We will ask this family to calm down and not be angry and curse. We know the state of funerals and that is why we have come to support you when we visit you.

The father of the family, Zwelijikile Majenge, said that he is very grateful to the municipality because now they will give them a proper burial, also thanking them for so much support from the government. The Majenge went on to say that the municipality could continue this good work in other homes as well.
