The upcoming school, aptly named “Xholobeni Technical High,” is poised to offer classes from grade 8 to grade 11, with four classrooms ready to welcome eager young minds.
Aseza Ndovela, one of the dedicated volunteers, emphasized that their work is driven by a shared passion for the community’s children. “No one is expecting payment,” he declared. Even the meals they share while working are contributions from various homes, demonstrating the collective effort put into this endeavour.
With a hopeful plea for assistance, a message has been dispatched to the Department of Education. The community eagerly anticipates a visit from the department to witness the ongoing project initiated by Xholobeni’s steadfast inhabitants.
The school’s necessity becomes even more apparent during inclement weather, as Xolani Nqoko, the school chairperson, pointed out. He highlighted the arduous journey children face, having to navigate forests and cross the Mnyameni bridge over a 150-meter waterfall just to reach school on rainy days. While the roofing phase is underway, the school still requires essential interior equipment and proper restroom facilities.
For Bongani Ndovela, this initiative hits close to home. He expressed deep concern for the children who struggle with the 15-kilometer trek to school and back, which led him to actively participate in building the school. His vision is clear: he wants to see graduates emerging from his village, equipped with the knowledge to shape a better future.
The community holds onto the hope that by next year, their school will be completed, and children can attend their respective grades without the formidable challenges of river crossings and daunting bridges. With unwavering determination, the people of Xholobeni are rekindling hope and crafting an educational pathway for their children, proving that no obstacle is insurmountable when a community unites for a brighter future.
