Many political parties across the country are currently campaigning for the local government elections. Time is very limited , having just less than 3 weeks to go to the polls. Batho Pele Movement with headquarters based in Butterworth, headed by Veliswa Mvenya is contesting 8 municipalities in the province, namely; Mbatshe local municipality, Buffalo City District municipality, Mhlontlo local municipality, Nyandeni local municipality, Matatiele local municipality, Winnie Madikizela mandela local municipality and Mnquma local municipality.

Why should people vote for BPM?

This has given an opportunity for smaller political parties to enter the stage and offer people varying alternatives. Batho Pele Movement’s Siphiwo Pohlwana a candidate in Ward 13 didn’t waste time to share his parties’ goals saying “sifuna ukuzisa iinkonzo ebantwini”. All candidates are based and are from the wards that they are contesting, he added. BPM will respect people, prioritize people and will deliver services to its people. “we will focus more on the people’s needs” says Siphiwo.

What will you do for the people?

Job creation is at the top of the things we have identified our communities need. “Those who have land must identify land and it must be used to the benefit of the local communities funded by the local municipalities. For example, we can use the land to build water dams, shopping malls and food processing plants on our own land.” – says Mr N. Zangwa, a BPM candidate in ward 22 (Elugwijini locality) she continued by emphasizing the need for development of local economy. BPM believes that local retail shops and local businesses must buy locally produced products and services in order for our province to prosper.

2021 South African municipal elections have put more pressure on political parties, especially the ruling party especially with corruption cases  and service delivery protests across the country but only the 1st of November will decide who runs which local municipality.
