The BBL is the fastest-growing cosmetic surgery in the world and it has made its way to South Africa despite the mounting number of deaths resulting from the procedure. Brazilian butt lift, known as a BBL, is a surgical procedure in which fat is removed from various parts of the body and then injected back into the buttocks.
BBL’s popularity and the body type it promises reached US and global popular cultures by the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Back in the day, people would not disclose when they have done the procedure, You would pick it up in the changes and difference in shape of their bodies once they have posted their “ new bodies “ on Instagram. Recently, most social media personalities have been open about getting BBL’s, the likes of the socialite and DJ Sithelo Shozi shared her pictures of her body transformation after undergoing a procedure at The Clinique Istanbul in Turkey.
Xoli Gcabashe, Content creator and a YouTuber also took us through her body transformation journey which was done here in South Africa documenting the process on YouTube. Mamkhize is one of the people who are rumoured to have gone under the knife.
A 2017 study published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal found that two out of 6 000 BBLS resulted in death
This number largely stems from the high demand for BBLs, which has led to some unqualified or under-qualified physicians and others with limited surgical training. People who have gone through the procedure always advise other people who have interest BBL’s to look for best doctors and be willing to PAY . that’s why some fly to Overseas to get their BBL’s done and some get it done here in South Africa.
