The African National Congress (ANC) in the Alfred Nzo region has once again postponed its much-anticipated regional conference, which was set to run from 10 to 12 July 2025..
This follows a series of delays linked to unresolved internal disputes within various branches. The Pondoland Times earlier reported that the postponement was aimed at giving the party more time to resolve factional tensions and candidate disagreements ahead of the elective meeting.
An ANC insider confirmed that certain branch-level complaints were still under review, prompting the regional executive to delay the proceedings further to allow space for conflict resolution.
The Daily Dispatch also reported that disputes from multiple branches contributed to the disruption of last weekend’s planned conference, raising concerns over the region’s readiness to hold free and fair elections for new leadership.
No new venue has been confirmed as yet, but party officials say preparations are back on track. The Alfred Nzo region is one of the ANC’s most influential structures in the Eastern Cape and is expected to play a key role in shaping the provincial leadership ahead of 2026.
Pondoland Times will continue to follow developments as the revised conference dates approach.
