Good Samaritans from across the Globe have taken it upon their hands to change the lives of Bizana residents for the better by starting a Humanitarian Healthcare project called Bizana South Africa Campaign 2022 which aims at improving the unpleasant situation in Bizana hospitals.
Greenvile Hospital and St Patrics hospital are the only two government hospitals situated under Winnie Madikizela-Mandela local municipality, servicing people from Bizana and its surrounding areas.
After seeing and having experienced the struggle faced by patients in hospitals Fikile Somgungqu Zitumane from Mhlanga location in Bizana, currently residing in United Kingdom shared the idea with her team and started this life changing initiative. Fikile is a Human rights project director, clinician & advocate.
With the help of the Goodwill ambassador Sean Bardoo from United States and others, they have managed to raise funds and tons of donations from various organizations and stakeholders.
Goodwill Ambassador Sean Bardoo said they are doing this to bring hope and to better the lives of the people. Adding that there is another similar project that they are working on, in Uganda. Ambassador Sean holds a Juris Doctorate in Law and a master’s degree in organizational leadership and Policy.
The team has managed to get specialists and doctors who will be voluntarily rendering their services in these hospitals. They have collected loads of medical equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, clutches, toys, and many other things. In a bid to bring a smile to hospitalized patients and to entertain children in hospitals.
Meanwhile, Winnie Madikizela Mandela local municipality mayor Cllr Daniswa Mafumbatha expressed gratitude about this healthcare project as it will improve the livelihood of Winnie Madikizela Mandela local municipality residents.
“We are in the rural parts of the country and our hospitals do need help; we appreciate what this team will be doing for us. Indeed, health services should be prioritised” , said Mayor Daniswa Mafumbatha.
“If we can all come together as the community this will go far, this is everybody’s responsibility. We want the whole community to benefit. I want the youth of Bizana to think out of the box” Said Fikile Zitumane.
Thembela Ncise a resident from Thaleni village in Bizana who have been a patient in both hospitals said intervention is really needed as the condition of these hospitals is not so appealing.
