The National Prosecuting Authority Regional Spokesperson in the Eastern Cape Division Luxolo Tyali, issued a press release regarding the charges laid against the medical doctor who allegedly raped a patient.
A 37-year-old medical doctor, Sikhokhele Soldati, appeared at EmaXesibeni (Mount Ayliff) Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 14 December, on rape charges. He was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly raping a 34-year-old patient, inside a consulting room in Mount Ayliff Hospital, on 08 December 2022.
It is alleged that the patient was at the hospital for medical attention. When the nurse left her with the doctor, he locked the door and demanded that she perform oral sex on him. When the patient refused, he allegedly overpowered and raped her
When the nurse returned, she found the door to the consulting room locked, and knocked until the alleged rapist opened. The patient allegedly ran out, visibly shaking and reported her ordeal to the nurse and her friend wo had accompanied her to the hospital.
The doctor allegedly evaded arrest until later date. The court postponed the matter to 21 December 2022, for formal bail application.
