A former teacher from Ntsizwa Senior Secondary School has been granted R5 000 bail after appearing on two counts of rape allegations at EmaXesibeni (formally Mount Ayliff) Magistrate court on the 4 November 2022.

The 26-year-old is accused of raping two grade 12 pupils in the school, between May and June 2022. He would allegedly lure the rape survivors on different occasions without their consent in a strong room.

The accused would lock it from the inside, overpower them, rape and threaten that they should not speak of their rape ordeals. The rape survivors are aged 18 and 19 years. Both sexual encounters took place in the school premises.

Both pupils informed their classmates about the alleged offences and he was arrested on 25 October 2022, after rape survivors told her parents about the sexual assaults and were found to be pregnant.

Provincial Department of Education spokesperson Malibongwe Mtima said that the department is aware of the former teacher’s pending rape allegations.

The alleged perpetrator is no longer an employee at the department he resigned on 28 October 2022. said Mtima

According to Mtima the department is providing psycho-social support for the grade 12 pupils in order to keep them at school by giving them necessary support.

National Prosecuting Authority Eastern Cape Division spokesperson Luxolo Tyali said the accused’s bail conditions included that he relocate to Nkawu location in Matatiele and report to Matatiele Police station every Friday.

Tyali said the case is postponed to 27 January 2023 for further investigations.
