Police have launched an attempted murder investigation after a 23-year-old man was shot at a residence in Hyde Park, Johannesburg, on Thursday 19 February 2026.
The victim, who is employed at the property, was rushed to hospital following the shooting. His condition has not yet been officially confirmed.
Gauteng police confirmed that members of the K9 Unit, Bramley detectives and Forensic Crime Scene Management are processing the crime scene as investigations continue.
Two men, aged 28 and 33, have been taken in for questioning. Authorities have confirmed that one of the individuals being questioned is Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the son of former Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe. The firearm in question has not yet been recovered, though cartridge casings are being examined as part of the inquiry.
Police have not yet disclosed the motive behind the shooting, and investigations are ongoing as detectives work to establish the circumstances leading up to the shooting
