What Happened
Amathole Executive Mayor Cllr Anele Ntsangani released a public message ahead of Christmas and New Year. His statement encouraged residents to:
- Use water sparingly due to high seasonal demand.
- Stay safe on the roads while travelling to family.
- Make use of Pay@ retail outlets to settle municipal accounts more conveniently.
- Reconnect with community values, rest, and enter 2026 with unity and hope.
“Every responsible decision on our roads helps protect lives and ensures that families arrive safely,” Ntsangani said.
Official Response
In the statement, the mayor highlighted that small, consistent actions such as saving water and driving with care could make a meaningful difference during this busy time.
The district reaffirmed its 2026 goal of being resilient, inclusive and forward-moving, with the mayor emphasising community partnerships as key to progress.
Community Impact
The holiday season places pressure on water services and transport routes. By calling for vigilance and collective effort, the district hopes to reduce strain and prevent festive season tragedies.
The reminder to use Pay@ for municipal bills also helps families manage their accounts without long queues or delays.
