    Justice Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi has extended condolences following the passing of veteran prosecutor and National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Deputy Director, Advocate Riegel Du Toit.

    What Happened

    Du Toit, who served in the NPA’s Gauteng division, died recently, according to a statement issued by the Department of Justice on Monday, 22 December 2025.

    He was known for his pivotal role in prosecuting high-profile organised crime cases, including the murder of German car expert Uwe Gemballa and the prosecution of Czech crime boss Radovan Krejcir.

    Due to threats against his life, Du Toit was once placed under protection after his name appeared on a hit list during a police raid on Krejcir’s property.

    Official Response

    Minister Kubayi described Du Toit as “a committed and respected public servant” and extended “heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and the entire prosecutorial fraternity”.
