A young man from the rural village of Baleni in Ward 25, Mbizana, has been recognised nationally for his exceptional work in youth development.
Muzi Nduku, founder of Muzi Nduku Youth Dev Cycling, received the Community Builder of the Year award at the South African Heroes Awards held in Auckland Park. He was named the overall winner, beating several strong finalists from across the country.
What Makes Nduku’s Work Stand Out
Nduku’s programmes focus on:
- Cycling development for rural youth
- Performing arts and theatre training
- Mentorship and leadership initiatives
- Partnering with universities to empower young people
Despite running impactful initiatives, Nduku has never received funding or sponsorship. His organisation currently lacks essential resources like bicycles and theatre equipment, yet continues to grow through passion and volunteerism.
“He doesn’t let his background define his vision,” said one of the judges.
A Role Model for Rural Youth
Raised in a disadvantaged community, Nduku’s journey has become a symbol of what’s possible with resilience and purpose. His story is now inspiring a new generation of young leaders in the Eastern Cape and beyond.
