The ANC has issued a sharp condemnation of AfriForum and its CEO Kallie Kriel, accusing them of spreading dangerous misinformation and inciting racial division. The statement was released on 18 December 2025.
What Happened
The African National Congress (ANC) says AfriForum and Kallie Kriel are running a deliberate campaign to undermine South Africa’s sovereignty and democratic institutions. The ANC describes their actions as “racist, reckless and calculated.”
According to the party, recent commentary by AfriForum on foreign nationals and Home Affairs policies was twisted to suggest racial persecution, instead of being viewed as legal enforcement.
“This conduct is no longer fringe rhetoric; it is a calculated political project aimed at destabilising our democracy,” the statement read.
The ANC further alleges that AfriForum has distorted facts, incited fear, and framed South Africa as a hostile state to global right-wing networks.
Official Response
The strongly worded release calls on South Africans to reject AfriForum’s messaging and to “rise and defend democracy.”
“Our freedom was won through sacrifice and struggle, not so that a small group could distort reality,” the ANC said.
They also urge government to act decisively—within the law—against anyone spreading racial hatred or undermining state institutions.
Community Impact
The statement says AfriForum’s tactics weaken public trust and create division.
The ANC warns that by lobbying foreign governments and pushing false victimhood narratives, AfriForum is fuelling unrest.
Key Claims by ANC
