Mzimvubu Local Municipality hosted its annual Christmas programme for elderly residents in Bhaca on 9 December 2025. The event aimed to support older persons during the festive season and strengthen community care.
Elderly Residents Receive R1 500 Christmas Vouchers
The programme took place at the Bhaca community hall, where selected elderly residents received gift vouchers worth R1 500. Councillor Thabisa Sokhanyile said the municipality started the initiative to ensure that older residents feel supported during the festive period.
“As a municipality, we saw the need to create a joyful Christmas for our elderly. This programme runs every year, and we select five elderly residents per ward,” said Councillor Sokhanyile.
She added that the programme will continue in the town of Mount Ayliff (MaXesibeni) on 10 December 2025.
Municipality Extends Support to Local Farmers
The Local Economic Development (LED) unit also provided targeted support to livestock farmers in Bhaca. The municipality handed over electric sheep-shearing machines to assist farmers in improving productivity and lowering operational costs.
This support forms part of a broader programme that began in MaXesibeni on 25 November 2025, ensuring that farmers across the municipality benefit equally from development initiatives.
Programme Strengthens Community Well-being
Residents welcomed the initiative, saying it brings warmth and dignity to elderly community members. The municipality said its goal is to combine social programmes with economic development so that households and farmers receive the support they need.
