The Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) visited Dutywa and Willowvale to inspect several major projects under construction. The oversight visit forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen accountability and ensure that infrastructure work progresses as planned.
Committee Checks Progress on Local Facilities
The committee assessed the construction of a new vehicle testing station in Ward 1. They also visited taxi rank upgrades in Gatyana and Dutywa, where earthworks and structural improvements are underway.
In Ward 2, the committee inspected a newly completed sports facility. The facility is expected to support youth development and community programmes.
Inspection of Internal Streets and Road Upgrades
MPAC reviewed upgrades to 1.722 km of internal streets in Dutywa, Ward 1. Roads inspected included:
- Road 8
- Road 12
- Road 12B
- Road 3
- Road 3A
- Road 11
- Road 11A
- Road 12A
They also noted progress on 378 metres of clearing and grubbing at Streatfield as part of the internal street upgrade.
Verification of Access Roads Across Multiple Wards
The committee confirmed the completion or progress of 19.1 km of access roads across several wards:
- Ward 3: 3 km (Mkhwezeni to Nqadu JSS)
- Ward 15: 5 km (Bobani access road)
- Ward 27: 4.4 km (Ndudumeni to Tywaka)
- Ward 11: 6.7 km (Ntilini to Botwe)
- Ward 24: 4 km of earthworks (Ntlahlane access road)
Infrastructure Improvements for Better Services
These site visits highlight the municipality’s commitment to improving services. Better roads, upgraded facilities and new community infrastructure promise safer travel and improved access for residents. MPAC said it will continue monitoring projects to ensure quality delivery and responsible use of public funds.
