What Happened
Police arrested two male bodyguards, aged 24 and 36, believed to be escorting Katiso KT Molefe outside Alexandra Magistrate’s Court.
The men were found carrying two semi-automatic AKM rifles and ammunition without valid firearm permits.
They were allegedly escorting Molefe who was due to appear in court on 3 December 2025 in the morning.
Their vehicle was also impounded when officers discovered the license disc did not match the registration plates.
Official Response
Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed the arrests and seizure.
“The suspects failed to produce legal documents for the firearms,” she said.
A case of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, as well as suspected vehicle tampering, is under investigation. On the other hand, Molefe’s case has been transferred to the Johannesburg High Court.
Community Impact
Court attendees expressed concern over rising violence and the presence of high-powered weapons near public institutions.
One bystander said, “It’s scary to think armed men can move around court like that.”
The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
