South African DJ and producer Chymamusique continues to receive overwhelming support during his recovery from a serious car crash. On 26 November 2025, fellow musician DJ Shimza donated R92 000 to help cover Chymamusique’s medical and monthly expenses.
What Happened?
Chymamusique — real name Collen Mmotla — underwent emergency brain surgery after a collision in Polokwane on 30 August 2025. The crash claimed five lives, including DJ Poizen, who was travelling with him.
Since then, supporters have contributed through a Back-A-Buddy campaign, which has now raised R211 479, surpassing its target of R200 000.
aa Chymamusique thanked Shimza (Ashley Raphala), saying the donation lifted a major financial burden and gave him space to heal.
Industry Response
The music community has rallied around him. Kaya 959 host Sizwe Dhlomo purchased Chymamusique’s CDJ 3000 and V10 mixer as part of efforts to help him manage medical costs.
The DJ has also put several belongings up for sale, including a Mercedes-Benz C63, motorbikes, and DJ equipment.
His Road to Recovery
Chymamusique spent time in the ICU after the crash and has since undergone four successful surgeries, with a fifth procedure still pending.
He continues to recover at home while attending physiotherapy to rebuild strength and mobility. He has thanked fans for their patience, prayers, and support as he works toward returning to music when his health allows.
