Nelson Mandela Bay Mayor Babalwa Lobishe chaired the Mayoral Committee meeting at City Hall on 26 November 2025. The session came as the metro intensifies support for the 16 Days of Activism campaign and prepares to host the provincial World AIDS Day event at Wolfson Stadium.
What Happened?
Executive Mayor Councilor Babalwa Lobishe opened the meeting by reflecting on the ongoing 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children. She said the campaign emphasized the continued trauma many residents face due to violence in homes and communities.
“This crisis demands bold action from all of us,” she said. “Our city must be a place where survivors are supported, and perpetrators are held accountable.”
The Mayor also confirmed that Nelson Mandela Bay will host the provincial World AIDS Day commemoration on 1 December 2025, under the theme “Let Communities Lead.” The event will start at 09:00 at Wolfson Stadium.
Official Response
Senior officials, the Chief Financial Officer, and the full Mayco attended the meeting.
The administration emphasized its commitment to community-centred programs, improved safety interventions, and strong health partnerships ahead of World AIDS Day.
The South African Cities Network (SACN) also briefed the committee on its evolving operating and funding model as it moves toward incorporation under SALGA. Municipal leaders said the city must stay actively engaged to protect local priorities as SACN finalizes its 2026–2031 Business Plan.
