Port St John’s Local Municipality held a Risk Management Workshop on the24 November 2025. The session aimed to improve how the municipality identifies risks and responds to emergencies. It also reinforced the need for sharper internal controls.
What Happened
The workshop reviewed the municipality’s full risk register and highlighted priority concerns. Facilitators walked teams through practical methods to spot threats early and act before they escalate.
“We build resilience by understanding our risks and closing gaps fast,” said one senior participant.
Training also covered the responsibilities of risk champions and stressed how combined assurance frameworks support accountability.
Official Response
COGTA’s Bulelwa Boya led the training and offered structured guidance throughout the programme. She urged officials to adopt consistent, clear processes.
“Strong risk culture starts with disciplined practice. Everyone has a role,” Boya told attendees.
Municipal leaders welcomed the session, noting that it sharpens both planning and emergency readiness.
Community Impact
The municipality stated that stronger risk systems help protect residents from service disruptions and safety threats. Better preparedness, they added, supports long-term sustainability.
“We want a community that feels secure because we act early,” a municipal spokesperson said.
