The WSU Gauteng Chapter has taken decisive steps to tighten governance mirroring a renewed focus on collaboration and clear constitutional guidance. During its Annual General Meeting in Johannesburg, members elected new leaders and reaffirmed their commitment to unity and effective structures.
Their Story
The meeting, held at the Investec Building, centred on improving how the chapter functions. Members agreed that the current organisational model required refinement to strengthen operations. Historically, the chapter had five leadership roles, but this has now shifted to a three-position structure.
Through elections, Gcinumzi Qotywa became the new Convener, joined by Mncedi Qata and Philiswa Dyonase as additional members. Qotywa stressed that leadership should remain open and inclusive, noting that many members possess the ability to add value.
The Event
Several committees were established to improve project delivery and ensure active member participation. This move aims to strengthen internal operations while supporting the chapter’s broader goals.
Members also reaffirmed the importance of aligning the chapter’s campaign charter with Convex’s national programme of action, reinforcing unity across structures.
The AGM closed with solid commitments to collaboration, improved governance, and constitutional clarity seen as essential to serving both members and the university community more effectively.
Community Reactions
Members expressed confidence that the clarified roles, strengthened structures, and collective decision-making approach will create a more efficient chapter. The renewed sense of teamwork has sparked optimism about future campaigns and projects.
