A Call for Renewal
At a strategic planning session in East London, Mrs. Mrwetyana, Acting Deputy Director for Health and Wellness at Walter Sisulu University (WSU), inspired her team to “chart a new way forward.”
Her message focused on renewal, purpose, and commitment to students as the university continues its Vision 2030 review.
She began by expressing gratitude for the dedication shown by her colleagues. Moreover, she reminded them that their shared goal is to improve student wellbeing through genuine service, not self-interest.
Guided by Purpose and Growth
Mrs. Mrwetyana described the word “new” as a symbol of growth and transformation. This message was especially relevant as WSU undergoes leadership transitions and a review of its long-term strategy.
Therefore, she urged the Student Health and Wellness Cluster to redefine its identity and enhance its influence within the university community. She said this moment provides an opportunity to strengthen unity and purpose.
Reflecting on Progress
The session encouraged open discussion about past achievements and future goals.
To guide the reflection, Mrs. Mrwetyana asked thought-provoking questions such as:
- How are we known within the University?
- What is our identity and personal brand?
She stressed that their professional image matters. Students, she said, should always experience them as compassionate and aligned with WSU’s core values.
Furthermore, she challenged the team to take ownership of their impact, stating, “When Walter Sisulu University is spoken of, Student Health and Wellness must also be recognized.”
Building a United Future
As the session concluded, participants shared renewed enthusiasm and optimism.
Mrs. Mrwetyana encouraged everyone to “dream boldly, listen deeply, and commit to meaningful action.”
She envisioned a future where every student receives holistic support academically, socially, and emotionally.
“Let us engage openly and work towards a strategy that redefines the University’s identity through a strong Student Health and Wellness pillar,” she concluded.
