The Alfred Nzo District Municipality (ANDM) has announced with deep sorrow the passing of Councillor Mawande Magadla. He passed away in the early hours of Monday, 3 November 2025, at the age of 43.
Councillor Magadla, who came from Ngonyameni Village in Ward 4 of the Umzimvubu Local Municipality, was widely respected for his humility, strong leadership, and unwavering commitment to improving the lives of residents in his community.

ANDM Speaker, Councillor Sixolile Mehlomakulu, expressed his shock and sadness at the news, describing Councillor Magadla as a principled and passionate public servant.
“The departed servant was a principled leader who cared deeply for the people of our district, regardless of political affiliation. In Council meetings, he was vocal and passionate about programmes that sought to improve the quality of life for all residents,” Mehlomakulu said.
He extended condolences to Councillor Magadla’s family, friends, colleagues, and members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), adding that his contributions to the municipality will be greatly missed.
Since joining ANDM in 2021, Cllr. Magadla had served with integrity and dedication as a member of the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC).

Couincillor Magadla’s passing leaves a deep void in both the council and the local community he served. His commitment to accountability and development earned him respect across the political spectrum.
