On 4 November 2025, Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Executive Mayor Babalwa Lobishe showed her support for mental health advocate Zolani Zondani, who walked from Nelson Mandela Bay to Cape Town to raise awareness about depression and mental health challenges among men and young people.
What Happened
The Executive Mayor handed over a R10,000 cheque to Broski, Zondani’s non-profit organisation that creates safe spaces and promotes mental wellness in local communities. “This is no longer about me, it’s about the people, we appreciate every bit of support. It means hope for those struggling silently,” said Zondani.
Purpose and Support
The funds will help Zondani access counselling and training, allowing him to extend his work in supporting others facing mental health struggles. The Department of Social Development will work with the Mayor’s Office to ensure he continues to receive the assistance needed for his outreach programmes.
Community Impact
The initiative underscored the Metro’s commitment to promoting mental wellness and community care. Mayor Lobishe said the partnership symbolises the importance of collective action in tackling mental health issues.
