Amahlathi Local Municipality, in partnership with the Eastern Cape Department of Community Safety, SAPS, and Provincial Traffic, officially launched its Festive Season Safety Campaign on 29 October 2025. The event featured a major roadblock operation along the N6 near Stutterheim, the start of heightened safety operations for the busy travel period.
What Happened?
The campaign began with a police parade and operational briefing, where officers were inspected and received their final deployment instructions.
Law enforcement teams — joined by Amahlathi Mayor Nomakosazana Nongqayi — conducted a roadblock operation at the Stutterheim entrance and the ANCA T-Junction.
The operation focused on checking vehicle roadworthy, driver sobriety, and compliance with traffic regulations. The handover of new police vehicles to several stations across the district, including one assigned to the Stutterheim Police Station.

Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to community safety and disciplined road use. The Eastern Cape Department of Community Safety stated that the campaign forms part of a broader effort to reduce road accidents and combat festive-season crime.
“Safety is a collective responsibility. We urge motorists to obey traffic laws, avoid drinking and driving, and respect officers on duty,” said a SAPS spokesperson.
Officials also emphasized that collaboration among law enforcement agencies strengthens community trust and improves service delivery, especially during high-travel months.
