A young woman living with disability has received a newly built home in Qadini, Elliotdale. The handover took place on 27 October 2025, led by Mbhashe Executive Mayor Councilor Samkelo Janda, together with the Mbhashe Business Forum. The project aims to restore dignity and support vulnerable residents in Ward 16.
What Happened?
The Mbhashe Business Forum partnered with Mbhashe Local Municipality to build the house for Ms Nomasibulele Qhwalane. She sustained a disability after an accident and had been living in poor conditions.
Alongside the handover, community members joined in planting trees and vegetables to promote food security around the property. The event drew local leaders and residents who celebrated the milestone.
Official Response
Mayor Janda applauded the project and stressed the importance of collaboration across government spheres and the private sector.
“Government works together — local, provincial and national — but building houses is the job of the responsible department,” he said. “We thank the Mbhashe Business Forum for stepping in to change one life for the better.”
The Business Forum echoed the message, saying community upliftment remains a priority.
Community Impact
Residents say the handover gives Qhwalane a fresh sense of safety, comfort and independence. It also inspires more partnerships to support people in need across Mbhashe.
Local youth who joined the food garden activity said they hope the initiative spreads to more households in the area.
